i picked up my scans today from the first roll of film i put through my beautiful diana camera, which included this shot of my coffee-stained socks in the snowy starbucks parking lot.

yup, it’s time for another one. we had a FABULOUS time at april’s shoot ‘em up workshop. there were cupcakes and cameras and all my girls were shooting in manual by the end of it all!
so you wanna know more?
the shoot ‘em up workshop is a workshop on camera basics by laura zastrow photography! come learn how to use your camera in manual (no more “auto” or “p”!) as well as some other fabulous photography knowledge that will help you take awesome photos! (please note that this workshop is LIMITED TO TEN ATTENDEES so i can give you my full attention. when the slots are filled, that’s it!)
do i need a dslr to attend this workshop?
nope! if your point-and-shoot camera has a “manual” setting, this workshop will be just as beneficial to you as the guy with the big, fancy dslr. (the nikon coolpix and canon powershot are two common camera models that have a manual setting, although there are other point-and-shoots that do, too!)
when and where?
saturday, july 7th, 2012 from 9:30 am till 4 pm at cool beans coffee cafe on madison’s eastside
what will be covered?
- camera basics (shutter speed, aperture, iso)
- basic photo editing (histograms, white balance)
- composition
- bring all your questions under the sun for some q&a time!
what else?
- a yummy lunch will be provided
- we’ll spend a bit of time practicing what we talk about, so please bring your camera!
cost
the workshop cost is $200, which is due when you sign up. since space is limited, your payment is non-refundable. this is because your payment is reserving a spot for you and i trust that you’ll be there to occupy that seat.
how do i sign up?
you can pay via paypal by clicking here.
I WILL BE USING THE EMAIL ADDRESS LINKED TO YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO CONTACT YOU ABOUT WORKSHOP DETAILS AS THE DATE GETS CLOSER. IF YOU’D LIKE ME TO CONTACT YOU AT A DIFFERENT EMAIL ADDRESS, PLEASE EMAIL ME AT LAURA (at) LAURAZASTROW (dot) COM.
please note:
this workshop is for beginner photographers, mostly for folks who want to take better photos of their kids or maybe just bought a DSLR and want to learn how to use it better. if you are a professional photographer and/or are proficient using manual mode, white balance, and histograms, feel free to contact me about a personalized one-on-one session where we can tailor something to fit what you’re looking to learn.

upgraded the phones this week from old four-year-old hardly-working randomly-turn-off dumb phones to shiny new smart phones, considering it IS 2012 and all. (bonus points for instagram, too. but can anyone tell me how i can have people “follow” my feed?)
last week i announced that i’m offering one-on-one photographer sessions and this week i’ll be announcing details for this summer’s shoot ‘em up workshop. wanna be the first to know details? sign up for the mailing list here.

oh goodness, sara and ben. i like them a lot.
they had their sweet, beautiful wedding at the goodman community center in madison, which is surrounded by old, urban-y buildings which happen to be my favorite.
due to limited time, they opted for seeing each other before the ceremony (a “first sight”, as i like to call it). if i had it to do over again, i would certainly do a first sight with my husband to have a bit of time with just the two of us before the ceremony.
they had the traveling photo booth‘s sweet old-time photo booth at their reception. so fun!
and sweet sweets from bloom bake shop.

every time i drive past the kipp corporation on waubesa at night, i remind myself to shoot in front of their glowing windows. so two thumbs up for couples who trust me enough to leave their reception for a quick shot. (:
ben and sara, of course, such a lovely day you had. thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it. ♥

enjoying cinnamon + sugar toast (reminiscent of childhood breakfasts) and recovering from yesterday’s wedding. you wedding photographers understand how my thighs are feeling this morning. happy sunday!
